Kasaragod: The police on Wednesday nabbed the prime suspect in the murder case of a 22-year-old youth near Infopark in Kakkanad, Kochi.
Arshad, the flatmate of the victim Sajeev Krishnan, was taken into custody from Kasaragod. He was missing since the crime came to light on Tuesday, police said.
Police also suspected that Arshad had Sajeev’s mobile phone. Till Tuesday afternoon, his friends were receiving text messages from the deceased’s phone.
Malappuram-native Sajeev lived in a flat on the 16th floor of Oxoniya apartments in Kakkanad’s Edachira with four other friends.
The incident came to light when three of his roommates returned home from a trip. Sajeev’s friends contacted the caretaker of the flat as he was not responding to their calls. He was found dead after they inspected the flat.
The body, which was wrapped in a bedsheet and blanket, was found shoved into the garbage chute on the balcony of their apartment. There were deep cuts on his head and body.
Sajeev’s friend Amjad told Manorama News that Arshad fleed from the apartment on his scooter.
“Arshad was a childhood acquaintance of another flatmate. They met him only two weeks ago,” Amjad said.
